Bomb Guts has been through a LOT lately. You just haven’t seen any of it.

When I built this site out last June, it was my first WordPress project ever and I was learning as I went along. If you’ve done any WordPress development, look at this site’s stylesheet and compare it to the stylesheet for the default theme, Kubrick. You will laugh at the butcher-like approach I took toward making this site work.

One of the first things I realized I had no idea about was MySQL databases and backing them up. So it was kind of a bummer when BG’s MySQL database died a few months ago. I was able to restore the database so that it’d be viewable, but we were unable to write anything to it. After a lot of sighing, I decided to do a manual restore of all of the articles via some copy and pasting.

On the bright side, it seems to have taken well. I’m writing a new post as we speak and this new database (which is well backed up) seems to be working great. On the dark side, we lost all your comments. Kind of a bummer. But we’re going to give you all plenty to comment about by writing a whole shitload of new posts over this weekend.
